Set in leafy Kineton, just a few miles from the Aston Martin factory at Gaydon is McGurk Performance Cars. Founded by John McGurk in 2002, he has a team of two full time and two part time staff.
"Most of the cars we sell are fifty percent of the new price, representing really good value for money." says John. "On average I drive a thousand miles a week, travelling all over the country looking for a car that has been cared for. Anyone can buy an average car. The skill is in buying those rare well cared for examples. I have a reputation for being extremely picky!"
"What we are selling are cars at the peak of their perfection so there is no excuse for anyone not to buy. Some of the vehicles are bought by collectors and we have recently exported two cars, because the buyers know that their piece of English heritage will increase in value."
John says (the cars) that all the cars are carefully inspected and serviced by main dealers. Each car sits with tyres meticulously placed on squares of carpet, cosseted and cared for.
For someone that previously worked for Ferrari and Jaguar, John knows what he is looking for, "What I have here is a real toy store its one place where you will find everything under one roof. I know what people want and what they hope to find when searching for their next car, after all it's a big decision. People need to feel comfortable and relaxed and that's just the beginning as I like to remind people how we will always be here to help."
So John empathises with customers who enter his Aladins Cave. "We have a certain number of customers who want to frequently change the car they drive, so we offer them a bespoke service to enable this to happen. Last year we created a number of good relationships with clients who bought as many as 5 cars in one year. People are fed up with losing thousands of pounds in depreciation and dealer margins so to get repeat business it has to be a sharp and precise agreement for both parties ensuring everyone's happy."
"Business is all about developing good relationships but our rapport with our customers begins at the point of sale. We are always available to help with any problems, even at ten o'clock on a Sunday night. The idea is that we want our customers to come back to us."
